From our experience: The quick setup of a house or apartment with a KNX system is unrivaled compared to other “small” KNX servers. To achieve this, Gira has continuously refined and expanded the GPA software (GPA Project Assistant) in recent years.

Would you like to dim the light to a certain brightness, call up a light scene such as “Dinner” or “Guests” and never have to search for the light button in the dark again? Or lower the blinds in the bathroom before you get in the shower?

In combination with the Gira S1, the Gira X1 enables voice control in conjunction with Amazon Alexa. This allows you to control light settings, blinds or scenes simply using voice commands.

The Gira X1 Server was launched on the market in 2016. Since then, it has not changed visually from the outside. “Under the hood”, Gira has made some hardware adjustments over the years that have no impact on day-to-day operation. This means that you can easily buy a Gira X1 Server from 2016 as well as the current one from 2023.

In contrast, the software for programming the Gira X1 server in the form of the Gira GPA software has changed a great deal: It has been continuously further developed by Gira and its range of functions expanded.

The Gira X1 Server extends essential automatic and comfort functions in a house/apartment based on an existing KNX system. These include Switching lights on and off, controlling blinds, setting room temperatures – anywhere in the house/apartment and remotely.

In your absence, many functions can be monitored and controlled remotely.

Multiroom audio

Audio systems with a KNX interface or Sonos can also be operated via the visualization.

The Gira X1 Server is a small KNX server that expands an apartment or house with a KNX system with a graphic visualization and automatic functions in a very simple and quick way.

Compared to the Gira Homeserver 4, which is a powerful server even for larger house construction projects such as villas or buildings in the public sector, the Gira X1 Server is easier and quicker to set up and set up a visualization. The “big” Gira Homeserver requires considerably more effort and IT expertise.

In combination with the Gira Smart Home app, all areas of the house/apartment can be operated via smartphone or tablet. The entire KNX system, including the connected music system, can be operated with a single app.

An important function is presence simulation, which increases security and thus minimizes the risk of burglary. You can also receive images from your door camera at any time to see what is happening on your property.

You can operate the heating in your house/apartment at home or on the move with individual room control and time control and call up a desired temperature for each room. The air conditioning system can also be controlled via the Gira X1 to adapt it to your individual needs. The highlight: With just one click, you can find out about the consumption values of your heating and air conditioning system as well as all other areas (ventilation, lighting, paneling, audio system, door camera) in all rooms.

The Gira X1 enables many useful and energy-saving settings for blind control. For example, you can specify that the slats of your blinds change their position automatically. In addition to simple raising and lowering, many time sequences can be pre-programmed or adjusted manually. Conveniently at home via your touchscreen or remotely via the Gira Smart Home app when you are out and about, for example.

Adapt light individually to your needs in the house/apartment – this can be set immediately at the touch of a button: switch individual or multiple lights on and off, activate automatically dimmed light at night, dim light and set it exactly to the desired light value, create a pleasant mood with the color temperature control or combine several lights into light scenes, these are just a few examples. With the Gira Smart Home app, you can control your lighting easily and flexibly.

The Gira X1 Server has an integrated network interface. It itself is controlled via the TCP/IP network and also transports the KNX commands via the network. This means that KNX devices can be read out and controlled via the Gira X1.

The Gira X1 Server can be controlled from a smartphone, tablet or touchscreen PC via visualization. So intelligent that they are always tailored to individual wishes and living conditions.

The Gira X1 Server can only be set up and programmed using the “Gira Project Assistant” (GPA) software, which is available free of charge.

As the Gira X1 Server is programmed via the network (TCP/IP), the actual programming process – transferring the project data – only takes a few seconds. Most of the time is spent on linking the group addresses and setting up the functions and logics.

The limits of the Gira X1 server compared to other high-end servers – such as the Gira Home server – lie in the area of multi-room audio: the interaction is limited to Sonos amplifiers that form several multi-room audio zones in a house.

With the latest GPA software and associated Gira X1 firmware, several Sonos multi-room audio zones can be linked to the KNX system. This allows music to be played in different rooms of a house or apartment.
