Almost 60 years ago, networked living developed largely from the commercial sector. In 1939, for example, an article appeared in Popular Mechanics Magazine about &#8220;The electric house of the future&#8221;.   <\/p>\n<p>The author, George H. Bucher, describes a networked house in which doors open automatically, guests are greeted personally <b>by the house<\/b> via an <b>intercom system<\/b> and the <b>lighting<\/b> changes <b>according to the needs of<\/b> the residents.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ee8d91b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ee8d91b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">1963: First smart industrial buildings<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7887b9a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7887b9a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The origins of truly networked buildings can only be found in the 1960s. It relies on a central unit that controls all the connected peripherals. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9927e83 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9927e83\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">1991: EIB - independent standard for houses\/apartments<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b2ce551 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b2ce551\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The open EIB\/KNX bus standard was founded in 1991. In 2002, a binding and manufacturer-independent KNX standard was adopted. This <u>interdisciplinary networking<\/u> of <b>heating, cooling, ventilation, shading<\/b> and <b>lighting<\/b> was initiated by Berker, Jung, Gira, Merten and Siemens. There are real worlds between the development of that time and today <\/figcaption>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b95a9bc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b95a9bc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In the early 1990s, especially from 1991 to 1994, the division between the manufacturers was as follows: <b>Berker <\/b> <b>mainly produced KNX switches<\/b>, while <b>Gira<\/b> brought both <b>KNX switches<\/b> and <b>KNX actuators<\/b> to the market. The companies <b>Jung, Merten<\/b> and <b>Siemens<\/b> also focused on KNX actuators and KNX push-buttons. <\/p>\n<p>From the outset, the aim of the collaboration was to create a manufacturer-independent system for networking and controlling any building &#8211; both commercial buildings and private homes. At that time, there was no Internet to speak of, although remote control was already possible via telephone lines and the first modems. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ed25350 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ed25350\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">2002: First upscale and luxury homes with KNX  <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9664dbf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9664dbf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In 2002, the EIB <b>standard<\/b> became the <b>KNX standard<\/b>. At that time, luxury houses and villas in particular were being equipped with KNX technology at high prices. Initially, only <b>basic functions for controlling heating, ventilation, blinds\/shutters<\/b> and dimming lamps were available. The <b>KNX software ETS2<\/b>, which ran under Windows XP at the time and was not always stable, also dates from this time.     <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Due to its flexible use and networked control system, the <b>Haus der Gegenwart<\/b>, which was built for the Federal Garden Show in Munich-Riem in 2005, was a true evolution of a conventional house. <b>All electronic processes<\/b> in the house could be <b>controlled centrally for the first time<\/b>.  <\/p>\n<p>For me (Frank V\u00f6lkel), this was a benchmark both technically and in terms of architecture, my private house &#8211; see also &#8220;<a
